about the show.

True to its name, Wald reflects the forest. The evolution, growth, decay, death and rebirth of nature and what happens to it when touched by the human hand.

We use handstands as our medium to create imagery and collage on stage. Within our world we pose questions in relation to nature’s ability to balance itself towards harmony and our capacity to manipulate or even halt it’s progress.

The conceptual framework for Wald grew out from the idea of challenging the handbalancing body and the inherent traditions of the discipline. So using multiple bodies and the deconstruction of conventional handstand technique, we are transforming the solo focus of handbalancing into something more expansive.

More to be annouced..

about the collective.

Right Way Down is a collective of six hand balancers who’s work tampers with the common definition of circus. Each member is a graduate from University of the Arts in Stockholm (DOCH). Having spent three years at university and a whole career on their hands, they come together to create Wald; a world inhabited by inversion and upside down expression.

Experimenting with the absurdity of reality upturned, you are invited to see the world the right way down.

Team

Imogen Huzel

An organic wild child. With rough playfulness, yet minimalistic delicacy, Imo expresses erratic and broken agility.

Sunniva Byvard

The systematically defined Sunni, is an angular, organized shape constructed by determined and arranged geometry.

Matt Pasquet

Matt embodies speed, precision and rhythm. Inhabiting low spaces with sporadic tension and release.

Isak Arvidsson

Poised and collected, ready to leap. Isak moves effortlessly with calmness and a pure, detailed approach.

Lisa Angberg

Lisa is an unpredictable mystery. Boneless, elastic and demonically folded into an inverted groove.

Mikael Kristiansen

The beastly Mikael is a nerdy anatomical wonder. Obsessed with a creative fusion between the academic the technical and the physical.
